Coroner officials said an autopsy was performed Sunday but results were not released pending further tests. [email protected] (661) 267-5744 LAKE LOS ANGELES – A man whose burned body was found in a car over the weekend has been identified as Alejandro Heredia, 32, of Palmdale. Los Angeles County sheriff’s homicide investigators said Monday that Heredia died after he fell asleep at the wheel, and then his car got stuck in the sand and caught fire. “He fell asleep at the wheel with his foot on the accelerator,” Detective Jonas Shipe said. “His car got caught in a sand berm. The tires were spinning, and the engine eventually overheated, which caused the engine to catch fire. There was no foul play.” Shipe said it appeared Heredia was asphyxiated. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Please try again.subscribeCongratulations!
