Portmore Primary football October 28 INSPORTS Portmore Primary Netball Rally will be on Wednesday, October 12, at Ascot High School at 9 a.m. Some nine schools are expected to complete in the one-day rally. Portsmouth are the defending champions for the Netball League and are expected to put on a good show, while Naggo Head, Kensington and Waterford and others will press them for the title. The league will commence on Wednesday, October 26. Mandeville hosts Church Teachers’ College 5k road race today The second staging of the Church Teachers’ College 5k road race run and walk will take place in Mandeville today. The race was first organised with considerable success last year with more than 200 participants. The organisers have advertised a 6 a.m. start, which means all participants have to be on spot by 5:30 a.m. to participate in the pre-race warm-up exercises. The race starts at the institution’s premises on Manchester Road, takes a route further south, before returning to its base. The school has been able to attract major sponsorship from Manchester Co-op Credit Union. Prizes will be offered in all age categories. Registration can be done online at fitness.ctc.edu.jm. Defending champions in the walk category are Jon Oliphant for male and Natasha McKenzie for females. Both are already signed up. Waterford Primary will defend their INSPORTS Portmore Primary League title as they oppose Ascot Primary in the feature match of a double-header as the league kicks off with a uniform parade and opening games at Portsmouth Primary playing field at noon. Prior to that match, third-place Portsmouth tackle Gregory Park at 10 a.m., while at 11 a.m., a uniform parade and opening ceremony take centre stage. Waterford are in a rebuilding stage as most of their star players have left. However, they have a young crop of ‘ballers’ that are eager to shine. Third-place Portsmouth have retained most of their players and are gunning for a title charge. Independence City, Bridgeport, Gregory Park and the ever-improving Kensington will be in the mix of things. Portmore Netball Rally on Wednesday Braeton All Stars, Waterhouse in mid-season showdown Portmore Business House football starts on Wednesday Central Manchester netball finals tomorrow Braeton All Stars and Waterhouse United will clash in the Jamaica Domino Council Association Premier League mid-season final tomorrow at the Olympia Crown Hotel located at 53 Molynes Road, match time 11 a.m. The winning team will receive a trophy and cash prize. Meanwhile, in a rescheduled match last Sunday, Right Stuff defeated Jade Strikes 300-259. MFA sends condolence to family of Mandeville sportscaster Weather permitting, the finals of the Central Manchester Sports Development Committee Netball leagues will be hosted tomorrow at the May Day High School grounds. The third-place match in the Junior League between Porus and Broadleaf will kick off the afternoon’s programme at 2:15. This will be followed by the Senior League third-place play-off between the Police team and Newleigh All Stars at 3:00. Following the third-place play-offs, football takes centre stage with the finals of the Knockpatrick Division at 3:30. The Junior League final featuring Albion and Pear Tree gets under way at 3:45. The grand Senior final between Williamsfield and Bombay is earmarked for 4:30. The organising committee, which works out of the constituency office of central Manchester Member of Parliament Peter Bunting, promises substantial prizes to the top four places. The Manchester Football Association (MFA) has sent formal condolences to the family of long-standing Mandeville-based journalist Paul Byfield. Byfield, who primarily worked as a correspondent for CVM TV, has been a fixture in the coverage of domestic football in the parish for the last 15 years. He passed away last Friday after battling cancer. According to the official message on the association’s Facebook page by its president, Dalton Wint, “The Manchester FA is grateful for the sterling interest Byfield took in the coverage of all its football competitions and programmes annually.” It notes that Byfield’s last assignment was his coverage of the South Central Under-13 competition in August, which Manchester won. A date for his funeral is being finalised. Portmore Gas and Network Plus will kick off the Portmore Business House Football League in a 7:30 p.m. curtain-raiser at the Sunshine playing field in Naggo Head on Wednesday. In the feature game at 8:30 p.m., C&S ‘A’ play Tyre Warehouse. The inclement weather forced the organisers to postpone the opening-round game, and it will be played on a date to be announced.
