Petron players celebrate after notching a point against Cocolife during Thursday’s match. —SHERWIN VARDELEONLindsay Stalzer likes Petron’s chances in the coming quarterfinals.“We are an awesome team. I mean, my teammates are awesome, we have great chemistry and it shows on the court,” said Stalzer Thursday night.ADVERTISEMENT Petron was only in trouble briefly in the third set when Tai Manu-Olevao was trying to rally Cocolife for a 12-10 lead.“I guess that was just because we wanted to finish the game quickly,” said Stalzer. “But I’m really glad that Ces (Molina) really took over.”Molina scored three straight points to put things in order and, later in the frame, drilled in a thunderous spike for a 21-20 lead.Hillary Hurley added 12 points for Petron whose overall defense countered the efforts of Olevao, who had 16 points.ADVERTISEMENT View comments Carpio hits red carpet treatment for China Coast Guard PLAY LIST 02:14Carpio hits red carpet treatment for China Coast Guard02:56NCRPO pledges to donate P3.5 million to victims of Taal eruption00:56Heavy rain brings some relief in Australia02:37Calm moments allow Taal folks some respite03:23Negosyo sa Tagaytay City, bagsak sa pag-aalboroto ng Bulkang Taal01:13Christian Standhardinger wins PBA Best Player award The prolific scorer from Illinois, who is on her fourth tour of duty in the country, banged in 13 points as Petron drubbed Cocolife, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22, to close out the eliminations on the top of the Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at Filoil Flying V Centre. The Blaze Spikers share the same 7-1 record with the resting Foton Tornadoes. And maybe a decade ago, I would have found their dilemma compelling. But today? In a few minutes, they could post it to Tumblr, Posterous, WordPress, 4chan and – just for the hell of it – Plenty of Fish, with plenty of time left over for Michael and Fiona to agonize over their relationship, for Sam and Fiona to explore their rivalry for Michael’s attention (I suspect they each had emotionally distant parents), and for Michael and Jesse to finally acknowledge the sexual tension between them. It’s possible I’m overreaching. That may have to be a two-parter.My point is this: time was when a screenwriter’s greatest enemies were the studio system, writer’s block and, well, other screenwriters. But now writers working in the action/adventure/suspense/blowing-stuff-up genre also have to contrive ways to deprive a character of connectivity. So to the action movie clichés of which wire to cut and cars slamming into fruit carts, you can soon add batteries running low, cell phone jammers, and “Why did I choose AT&T?”last_img read more

Governor asked to rescind Phillips appointment to HOA

first_img Electricity Cost of Service Study among the big agenda items at September 11 Cabinet meeting #MagneticMediaNews Related Items:#magneticmedianews Recommended for you Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, TCI, December 29, 2016 –  The Governor is being asked to rescind one of his choices for Appointed Member to the House of Assembly; not because of the man’s character but on principal.  Former Premier, Michael Misick echoes the sentiments of some in the country that Hon John Phillips should not have been reappointed to the House of Assembly, that the honour of a second and pensionable term of service to the people should be earned through an election, not given by an appointment.   In a media statement issued on Wednesday, Misick said,:  “While I don’t agree that the governor should be appointing any person to our parliament, while he has that power, he should exercise it responsibly and in the wider public interest.  I have nothing against Mr. Phillips personally.   I have known him for a very long time and believe that he has made a significant contribution to parliament over the last four years.   However I believe there are other citizens that are equally as capable of making a contribution and should be given a chance.”  Misick continued, “If you are going to serve parliament two consecutive times and be pensionable, you should run for office.   I call on the governor to review and rescind the appointment of Mr. John Phillips to Parliament.”  Philips, originally from Scotland is a near 30 year resident of the islands, a business owner and Belonger; he will serve for a second time as a Governor appointee and was a member of the Consultative Forum, a group of Islanders which functioned in Parliament during the suspension of the TCI Constitution between 2009 to 2012.center_img The Luxury of Grace Bay in Down Town Provo Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp ALERT # 2 ON POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE NINE ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY THURSDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER, 2019 AT 9 PM EDTlast_img read more

They have got something there.”last_img read more
