The Crescenta Valley of La Cresenta girls’ cross country team had the top three finishers at the Pacific League Meet No. 2 at Verdugo Park’s three-mile course in Glendale to clinch at least a share of the league title. Shelby Poc (19:05) finished a half stride ahead of Rachel Lange (19:05) and Michelle Callister (19:27) finished in third for the Daily News’ seventh-ranked girls’ team in 19-39 victory over Arcadia. Cresenta Valley (10-0) also produced the sixth, seventh and eighth-place finishers. Arcadia placed the fourth and fifth. For the Crescenta Valley boys’ team, Nathan Sellers won his second consective league meet with a time of 15:30 for the fourth-ranked boys’ team in a 26-32 loss to Arcadia. Eric Kleinsasser finished fourth with a time of 16:07. Despite the boys’ loss, Crescenta Valley still has a chance to tie for the league title at the league championship at the league finals on Nov. 3 at Crescenta Valley Park. GIRLS’ GOLF Thousand Oaks 229, Newbury Park Park 268, Calabasas 280: Junior Hillary Packard shot an even-par 36 at Los Robles Golf Course as Thousand Oaks (14-1, 10-0) held off Marmonte League challengers Newbury Park (3-8) and Calabasas (0-11). Packard shot seven bogies, one birdie, and a bogey on the back nine at Los Robles en route to her career-best score. GIRLS’ TENNIS Granada Hills 7, Cleveland 1:Sophomore Betty Liu of Granada Hills, a first-year varsity player, won her singles set 8-3 against Cleveland’s Shayna Rader. Granada Hills (7-1, 5-0) swept their singles sets against visiting Cleveland of Reseda to remain undefeated in West Valley League play. Granada Hills will play host to league rival El Camino Real (7-0, 5-0) Oct. 17. GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL Verdugo Hills d. North Hollywood 3-0: Senior Crystal Perryman had 15 kills and Layle Busante had 18 digs as Verdugo Hills of Tujunga defeated North Hollywood (6-3, 3-3) for its 16th consecutive Sinset Six League victory. Verdogo Hills (13-1, 6-0) was 16-4 and 10-0 in league last season. They have swept each of their past 16 league matches.
