Blow for Man United and Arsenal! La Liga defender plays down exit talk

first_img Aymeric Laporte in action for Athletic Bilbao 1 Manchester United and Arsenal target Aymeric Laporte has played down the chances of him leaving Athletic Bilbao this summer. Both Premier League sides have a long-running interest in the defender and both are lacking in his centre-back position. The rising French star has started and completed 21 La Liga matches so far this season, helping his side up to 13th.And in Bilbao’s last seven matches they have conceded just seven goals – not a bad stat when you take into account that includes their 5-2 defeat against Barcelona’s stunning frontline. When asked by AS about the speculation linking him to a Premier League move, Laporte said: “Here there are many people of experience and I’m learning a lot from them.“I have played a lot of games and I want to continue to do what I’m doing.”last_img read more

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke believes FA Cup semi-final is biggest game of his career

first_img1 Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke regards this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool as the biggest game of his career to date.Villa play the Reds at Wembley on Sunday with a place in the final at stake on May 30, knowing either Arsenal or Reading lie in wait.Benteke missed last summer’s World Cup after rupturing his achilles a year ago, and the Belgian striker believes this weekend’s showdown constitutes his biggest game as a result of missing the finals in Brazil.“For the moment, yes. It [missing the World Cup] was hard but now it’s in the past, I’m looking forward to playing the semi-final,” said the Villa hitman.“Liverpool are a good team but the thing with the FA Cup is it’s still something special. It’s 50-50 for me but some will say they are favourites.”The 24-year-old also insists it is ‘risky’ for Tim Sherwood’s side to take their recent impressive form for granted as they look to ensure Premier League football next season.Villa clinched a 1-0 win at Tottenham on Saturday which stretched the gap between themselves and the relegation zone to six points, but Benteke wants to retain focus on survival despite the FA Cup distraction. He said: “I think it’s risky to say we can take three points and we’re finished. We have to try to win every game.“Saturday was a massive three points because now we’re six points clear of QPR so it’s very important for us to be far off them.”talkSPORT will bring you live coverage of Aston Villa against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final this Sunday from 3pm.
