Moustakas has played primarily at third in his eight-year MLB career, and has never played at second. If he can handle the position, the Brewers would shift Travis Shaw — who had been the at third before Moustakas arrived last July — from second back to third base.Moustakas hit 28 home runs with 95 RBIs and a .774 OPS last season. Those are good offensive numbers for a third baseman, but would be even better offensive production from a second baseman. The Brewers announced Tuesday they had re-signed Moustakas to a one-year deal, with a mutual option for 2020. The contract is reportedly worth $10 million for this year. The free agent, who came to Milwaukee in a trade with the Royals in late July, had been a free agent. The Angels and Phillies had reportedly shown interest in him before he re-signed with the Brewers. The Brewers are auditioning veteran third baseman Mike Moustakas at second base this spring, in hopes he can take the job in the regular season.”It’s going to be fun. Obviously it’s going to be new,” Moustakas said Tuesday (via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). “I’ve been over there a couple times in the shift, so it’s kind of comfortable at this point now. It’ll be fun. We’ve got a lot of spring to work on it and get better.”
