Finance Minister Heads Mission to the United States

Peter Phillips and a four-member team will travel to the United States (US) on July 7, to meet with financial institutions and rating agencies in New York and Washington.Members of the delegation will hold meetings in Washington with critical stakeholders and the US Treasury to update them on the progress being made under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, and to see how the entities can help support Jamaica in a tangible way.This was stated by Minister of Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, at a Jamaica House press briefing on June 26.Meanwhile, the delegation will travel to New York, to meet with agents of the capital markets to update them on developments in the Government’s economic reform programmes and growth agenda.“The meetings will include representatives from investment banks, pension funds, insurance companies and rating agencies,” the Minister pointed out.Other members of the team are: Financial Secretary, Devon Rowe; Governor of the Bank of Jamaica, Brian Wynter; Senior Director in the Ministry of Finance, Pamella McLaren; and Special Advisor to the Minister, Helene McIntosh.Cabinet has approved the official travel, which will cost $2.3 million, inclusive of air fare, accommodation and per diem.
